Clipped to the front of his helmet, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been rocking a fun, little camera for much of training camp. A viralish video, presumably from that camera, has been making the rounds on social media this week. Bartstool Sports shared the clip in the Tweet below.
I have a lot of thoughts here. First, I totally agree with the Barstool Sports caption. Playing quarterback at any level, especially an NFL level, is nearly impossible. Fans, media, and myself often critique NFL quarterbacks, but I once again reminded from this video just how difficult it is. I literally never saw the intended target of his pass until the ball was caught.
But, my more important thought here, I truly hope this technology is NOT incorporated into game broadcasts. Half the comments on the above post, enthusiastically beg for the NFL to incorporate QB POV’s into the broadcast. I 100 percent do not support that. I love the traditional broadcast angle, and this POV angle is just hard to follow. I love it as social media option, but I beg NBC, ESPN, FOX, etc not to use it.
I promise I am not a broadcast technology luddite, and I genuinely love the improvements we have seen to broadcast year over year. But, I have to strongly disagree with @bubsy7 in the comments above.
I worked on producing live sports broadcasts (primarily soccer and baseball) for about 3-years, and if I was producing no POV in the NFL.
